2 Decades of Supporting Bosch Rugby

On 8 November 2022, the BRSC will officially celebrate its 20th anniversary.

How it all started
After a run of a few poor rugby seasons for Rondebosch rugby, a group of like-minded RBHS parents decided to join forces by forming a supporters’ club that would raise funds and generate support for the school’s players and coaches. The ultimate aim of this club would be to actively support rugby at both the preparatory and high school, for the benefit of all rugby players, coaches, staff and parents. This resulted in the Bosch Rugby Supporters’ Club (BRSC) officially being formed at the culmination of the season, on 8 November 2002.

Benefitting all Bosch rugby players
The success of this support quickly became apparent and Rondebosch rugby soon again became a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to the funds that were raised, talented youngsters with good rugby-playing potential were awarded player bursaries. The focus of the BRSC has since shifted towards creating a more holistic environment and benefitting all the players. To this end, funds are used to enhance and improve all aspects of the game, such as investing in new equipment, additional coaches and paying for on-site emergency medical services during match and practice days.

The BRSC committee is made up of parents, Old Boys, coaches, school representatives and other interested parties – all united around the goal and vision of maintaining the highest standard of rugby possible at Rondeb.

Inspirational speaker evenings:
The BRSC aims to host a minimum of four speaker events per year, during which we invite well-known sporting personalities to share their views, their stories and their passion for sport.

Within our network, we have been blessed to have been able to invite, and listen to, numerous lauded speakers such as John Smit, Marius Schoeman, the Van Zyl brothers (RBHS Old Boys and Stormers Captains), and also medical professionals, such as Dr Leigh Gordon, to speak about other aspects of rugby. We have also listened to Jacques Nienaber the day after he was announced as Springbok Coach, as well as various personnel from WP Rugby, Springbok 7s, Springboks, and also overseas internationals.

Growing our supporter network
With the success story that the BRSC has become, we’ve been able to build partnerships with household brands, such as Woolworths, Investec, and TJs. Our range of supporter wear has also been expanded and now includes beanies, caps, scarves, seat cushions, jackets, umbrellas, and even a vintage rugby jersey (all of which can be ordered on our Facebook page, or from Pam Ogilvie via email BoschRSC@rondebosch.com.

Thanks to the enthusiastic help and support of our rugby parents, we sell delicious-tasting hamburgers on Saturday mornings during home games.

The committee members may have changed over the years, we’ve seen sons arrive and depart, teams win and lose, but one thing has remain unchanged: To see the rise… and rise of rugby at Rondebosch!
