Far from a Dance – Michael Charton
We had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Charton to the Rondebosch E1942 Centenary Pavilion where a captivating story unfolded entitled “Far from a Dance”
Michael Charton is a Capetonian and E95 Rondebosch pupil whose enthusiasm for the story of South Africa gradually lured him away from his corporate career. Michael qualified as a chartered accountant in 2004, and embarked on a traditional financial career. However, his subsequent studies in history would gradually lure him from his corporate career.
Specifically, Michael came to believe that the craft of historical story telling has the potential to transform South Africa’s traumatic story into a source of learning, unity and human connection. By 2015 Michael exited the financial career and founded “Inherit South Africa”. In early 2017, Michael released “My Father’s Coat”, a story offering a fresh human perspective on South African history.
That story gathered sufficient interest to enable Michael to develop several more non-fictional stories each with the hope of inspiring human connections and curiosity in our past.
